n Saturday, January 24, 2015, Al Ulrich, host of STAND TALL RADIO aired a show on toxic exposure at Fort McClellan. Entitled "THE FORT MCCLELLAN DISASTER", this program featured special guest Joan Zakrocki, a Fort McClellan veteran. Joan attended Basic and AIT, (Advanced Individual Training) beginning in January of 1976. She later served as a tactical MP (Military Police Officer) and and her company's NBC-NCO, (Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Non-commissioned Officer). Read more about Joan below.
Joan heads the Facebook community page Ft McClellan Toxic Exposure Right To Know which is full of information every Fort McClellan veteran will find helpful. Joan shared information she has learned during her extensive individual research into the toxic environment at Fort McClellan, Alabama. Additionally Mary Lea Guerra, and Lisa Jo Sarro, both former U.S. Army Military Police officers, and Jesse Smith, former United States Congressional candidate, joined the program which proved to be very informative.

Joan Zakrocki served in the Army during the Cold War Era. She trained at Fort McClellan, Alabama for Basic and Military Police School starting in January of 1976 and graduated in May. She served as a tactical MP and became her company's NBC-NCO. That training brought with it realizations how precious and fragile life is. Jesse Smith, determined and ambitious, enlisted in the United States Army in March 1995. Immediately after graduating from basic training he quickly deployed into action serving two tours in Bosnia supporting both Operations' Joint Endeavor & Joint Guard. After successful completion of those assignments, he served back-to-back tours in Germany in conjunction with two combat tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I and III. Mary Lea Guerrra joined the Army at 19 years old with the intention of making it a lifelong career. While in basic training she became sick and was hospitalized being told that she was suffering from heatstroke or sunstroke. Upon completing basic training she married a soldier also from Fort McClellan. After graduating from MP school she joined her new husband at their permanent duty station in California where she performed duties as a 95C, MP prison guard. Lisa Jo Sarro attended basic training and Military Police school at Fort McClellan beginning in June of 1984. Sarro's Brother Tommy also attended training at Ft. McClellan in 1986. She believes it was there that both of their health problems began. After completing training she was stationed with the 25th USACH MP Company at Schofield Barracks Hawaii. Following her honorable discharge she spent 9 years as a firefighter while being a ride along volunteer civilian Police Officer for 8 years.
